Chepetegei Wants To Transform Community Through Education

Uganda’s long distance runner Joshua Cheptegei seeks to change his society through Education.

The multi world record holder says that Education is a basic fundamental requirement and he wants to educate more kids.

Cheptegei who studied languages and literature recently bought a school back in his home area in the district of Kapchorwa.

Kapchorwa Mountain Primary School (P.1 to P.7) is located In Kawowo Ward Parish, Central Division Subcounty, Kapchorwa District Of Uganda.

“When I took over the school, it was not like the way you are seeing it now I tried to improve a few things,” Cheptegei said in an interview with the BBC.

“I believe that Education transforms the community, it is a basic fundamental requirement.

“My dream is actually big, I will look into supporting other communities, it could be in Kampala or anywhere.

“People here especially the staff and kids, will be actually keeping an eye on the Tokyo Olympics, watching one of their champion one of their own showing the world what Ugandans are made of.”

Also, he this year opened a new athletics track in Kween district.

Cheptegei, the 10,000m World Champion will be going for a double in the coming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He noted: “I know its quite a difficult task for me, but I believe in my training and I believe in my capabilities.

“The only thing I will be grateful for is that I come out of Tokyo with a gold medal.”
