Galanopoulos Racing Against Time To Ready Silverbacks For Morocco

Silverbacks coach George Galaopoulos must be having the most difficult of tasks at the moment.

The tactician, an ex video coordinator for NBA team Dallas Mavericks, has a week-time to prepare Uganda for crucial tie against Morocco.

Uganda will on July 8 face the Moroccan team in Rabat in a rescheduled FIBA 2021 Afrobasket Qualification game.

“It doesnt matter whether we have adequate time to prepare or not, the time we have is what we have. We have a week. We are going to do the best we can in that time to prepare,” Galanopoulos tried to calm down the fears.

“We need to maximise our little time that we have every day, every drill, every practice session and then see what happens next Thursday.”

A place at the Kigali finals – due August 25 to September 4 – is at stake.

“We are not thinking about what our chances are, we are just taking it day by day, practice the best we can so that we can win this game,” the gaffer added.

Team Uganda suffered misfortunes after they were told to vacate the bubble when five o nthe contingent tested positive for Covid just hours to tip off of their first game of the second window in February in Tunis.

However, FIBA rescheduled the Uganda’s games in Group E where Egypt already booked their ticket to Rwanda.

The melee is amongst Uganda, Morocco and Cape Verde to grap the only two remaining slots from the group.

In preparation for the Morocco (and Cape Verde) tie, the national team selectors beefed the squad with new faces Arthur Kaluma, Keiran Zziwa and Mohamed Ghedi.

Galanopoulos revealed his excitment towards the squad at hand: “I am very excited to be working with everybody on the team, the new guys that we have are very talented, and they are good people who are going to fit in well with us.”

The team is in Cairo for a brief training camp and will cross over to Rabat in Morocco on July 4th.
