Taddeo Lwanga, Simba Win Tanzania League

Tadeo Lwanga’s Simba SC have been crowned champions of the 2020/21 Tanzania Premier League.

The Cranes midfielder joined the Tanzanian club in December 2020 as a free agent after canceling his contract with Egyptian side Tanta SC in July.

The Msimbazi confirmed their league triumph on Sunday July 11th after a 2-0 victory against Coastal Union at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with goals from strikers John Bocco and Chris Mugalu.

The result meant that they go on 79 points, nine more than second-placed Yanga, with only two matches to play.

Following their exit from the CAF champions league in May, when they lost 4-3 on aggregate to South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the quarter-finals, Simba have been in fine form, winning four matches in a row.

They defeated Namungo FC 3-1, Ruvu Shooting 3-0, Polisi Tanzania 1-0, and Mbeya City 4-1. It is from this run that has seen them Champions for the second succesive season.

Lwanga, since his arrival to the Tanzanian Giants has been a key member in the team, as he has featured in almost most the league games for his side.

The title sees Simba clinch their fourth in a row having previously won it in the 2017/18, 2018/19 and in the 2019/20 last season.

Winning the title also makes them one of the most successful clubs in Tanzania history, as they are now on level with Young Africans on 22 titles.

Simba will represent the country once again in the Champions League next season.
