CAF Women Champions League: CECAFA Postpones Zonal Qualifiers

The upcoming 2021 CAF Women Champions League Qialifiers for the Cecafa Regional have been postponed.

The championship was supposed to kick off on July 17 to August 1 in Kenya.

After consultations, it has been decided that the WCL Qualifiers for the CECAFA zone slated for 17th July to 1st August in Nairobi, will not take place as scheduled. New dates will be announced,” reads a brief statement from Cecafa

Uganda’s sole representatives Lady Doves were meant to travel on Friday.

Lady Doves, who won the FUFA Super League, were pitted in Group A alongside Tanzania’s Simba Queens and Burundi’s PVP FC.

The reason for the postponement is yet to be known.

Ferwafa had withdrawn Scandinavian WFC from the tournament due to Covid19 leaving FAD Club (Djibouti) and hosts Vihiga Queens (Kenya) as the only two teams in Group C.

Group B has Commercial Bank FC (Ethiopia), Yei Joint Stars FC (South Sudan) and New Generation (Zanzibar).

The winner of the now seven-team tournament will reach the finals of the inaugural CAF Champions League where they will compete with be joined by other zonal winner in Egypt.
