Olympics: New Details Emerge On Missing Ssekitoleko

Vanished Ugandan Weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko wanted to stay in Japan, international media has reported.

Ssekitoleko had a chance of qualifying to the Olympics and was part of Team Uganda’s first batch in Japan.

He however did not make the quota as informed by the International weightlifting Federation on July 5 and was expected to return to Uganda on July 20, UOC confirmed on Thursday.

Prior to a daily Covid19 test on Friday, Ssekitoleko was not in his room. He had gone!

Per Inside games, the City officials says that Ssekitoleko left behind a note which said “I want to live in Japan because my life in Uganda is difficult.”

Reports say that Ssekitoleko was seen purchasing a train ticket to Nagoya in central Japan.

According to Agence France-Presse, Ssekitoleko is believed to have taken the train from Kumatori Station, before changing to take the Shinkansen.

On Friday, Uganda Olympic Committee said that they are working hand in hand with Japan authorities to locate Ssekitoleko.
