Express FC Confirms Mathias Muwanga’s Exit

Express FC have confirmed custodian goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga has officially left the club.

Muwanga departs the club following spending three seasons as he joined the Wankuluku based side in the 2018/2019 season.

It is reported that contract negotiations between the club and the player fell through and both parties agreed to go different ways.

On Monday July 19th, the club through their website confirmed the departure of the title winning Goalkeeper.

“Express FC inform that, as per Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga’s wishes and at his request, the club and the player have mutually parted ways after contract renewal negotiations fell through, Read a statement on the club’s website.

“Express FC would like to place on record its thanks to a player who has shown his 100% committment and made his mark during one of the best seasons in our club’s history.”

The club has it on record that the 23 year old Goalkeeper managed 54 club appearances and kept 24 clean sheets across all competitions.

Muwanga leaves the club after guiding them to the 2020/21 Uganda Premier league title, their 7th in club history and was named the UPL best goalkeeper after keeping 13 clean sheets in the season.

His next destination is yet to be known. However reports are rife that the UPL goalkeeper of the season is being linked to DR Congo’s AS Vita and a club in Angola.

As they seek for a replacement, the Red Eagles are said to have agreed terms with former Kyetume FC goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa as a potential replacement for Muwanga.

Forward Frank Kalanda is the other player who has also departed at Express FC, after spending two years at the Club.
