CECAFA U23: Uganda Vs Tanzania: Preview, Lineups and How To Watch

Saturday, July 24
*Uganda Vs Tanzania – 2pm
*Djibouti Vs South Sudan – 4pm

Uganda Kobs face traditional rivals Tanzania in a crucial and last Group match of the ongoing 2021 CECAFA U23 Championship in Dar Bahir, Ethiopia.

The writings are on the wall for Uganda whose clear permutation for a place in the knockout is a VICTORY.

The win will see Kobs leapfrog Tanzania as Group A leaders and hence seal an automatic place at the Semis of the ongoing tourney.

Uganda find themselves in second spot of a three-team group A with just a point after that odorless draw with guests DR Congo.

llusajo Mwakasagule scored the only goal as Tanzania edged DR Congo to storm summit.

The top team in each group and the best second-placed side will qualify for the Semi-finals.

Burundi (Group B) and Kenya (Group C) are already through as leaders for their respective pools – The two sides will meet in the semis on July 28.

As it stands, Ethiopia who have two points in Group B, stand a chance for best runner up spot of the three groups before Saturday’s games.

Uganda can also qualify as best runner up with a high scoring draw (like 5-5) against Tanzania provided there is no winner in the day’s second match between Djibouti and Tanzania. Some maths!

The Uganda U20 Hippos team thrashed Tanzania last year

Uganda beat Tanzania last year at the U20 CECAFA Final in Arusha with almost this similar squad – Richard Basangwa, Steven Sserwadda, Kenneth Ssemakula and Ivan Bogere were on target in a 4-1 deserved victory.

Coach Morley Byekwaso will have to find a big solution for team’s inability to convert chances after the side fired blanks in their opener last Saturday.

The team also lacked width after the KCCA FC gaffer used Julius Poloto and Steven Mukwala as make-shift wide men in what looked like a 4-3-2-1 (4-3-3).

Steven Sserwadda was taken off injured and it remains to be seen if he will be in shape to make the starting XI in what looks like a win or go home tie.
