Olympics: Uganda’s Rower Kathleen Noble Falls Short

Ugandan Rower Kathleen Grace Noble missed out on a chance to progress to the Quarterfinals after she finished third in the Repechange contest of the Women’s single sculls race.

The feat means that she qualifed for the semifinals of the Rowers who are out of medal contention on Sunday.

She finished fifth with 8:36:01 behind second placed Hong Kong’s W.Y.W Hung with 8:23:58.

Noble is the first Ugandan in action at the coveted games, but fell to rowing stars from Northern Ireland and Mexico respectively.

She posted 8:21.85 in the 2000m rowing race on Friday to drop to a repechage race. But her dream of winning an Olympic medal for Uganda in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games has hit a dead end.

As she continues to fight for rankings, Noble will now take on Nigeria’s Toko Esther, Qatar’s Abujbara Tala and Sudanese Khogali Esraa in the tomorrow.

The other target for Noble is to finish among the best in Africa and she is truly on track. Currently the Namibian rower Maike Diekmann ranks better than her.

On Friday, Noble set a National record in rowing when she finished fifth in heat 2 of the women single sculls in her first race at the Olympic games.

She is the first Ugandan to represent the country in Rowing at Olympics.
