CECAFA: KCCA, Express Learn Group Opponents

Uganda Premier League sides KCCA FC and newly crowned Champions Express FC have learnt their opponents at the 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup.

The tournament returns after missing out in 2020 due to Coronavirus pandemic.

Defending champions KCCA FC have been pitted in group A alongside Burundi’s Le Messanger Ngozi FC and KMKM FC From Zanzibar.

Express FC have been pooled in group C alongside
Tanzania’s Yanga FC and guests Nyasa Big Bullets from Malawi.

This year’s tourney will be held in Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania due August 1-15 with nine teams taking part in the tournament.

The top eight ranked teams across all the three groups will play the quarter finals.

“After the group stage matches the team that is placed 9th will head home, while the others play in the quarter finals stage,” said CECAFA’s Gecheo.

He added that the best ranked team will face the 8th ranked, while the 2nd ranked team takes on the 7th ranked team. The 3rd ranked team will play the 6th tanked and the 4th ranked battles the 5th ranked.

The ninth seeded team after group stages will be eliminated from the tournament.

KCCA FC, then coached by Mike Mutebi, beat Azam FC 1-0 in 2019 thanks to a Mustafa Kizza strike to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup at the Stade de Kigali in Rwanda.
