Morley Byekwaso: Profligacy Derailed Our Semi-final chance

Uganda Kobs Head coach Morley Byekwaso says that profligacy infront of goal denied his team a place in the semi-finals of the on going CECAFA tournament.

He made the remarks after Uganda defeated DR Congo in the rankings match 1-0 courtesy of Najib Yiga 46th minutes strike.

Uganda faced DR Congo for the second time after played a 0-0 draw in the groups. Uganda later drew with Tanzania to finish second in group A.

According to the tournament formats, Group winners from the three games alongside one best loser face off in the semi-final on Tuesday.

“First of all we would have been in the semi finals but failure to score caused us problems” Byekwaso states.

With three matches played so far in the tournament including back to back draws in the group stages, the gaffer says they always created alot of chances but they were not clinical enough.

“There is no game we played that we didn’t get chances even today It was evident though we won we got alot of chances but we dont decide well mixed with fear that’s why we played ranking match instead of semi finals but we were supposed to play semi finals”.

This is Uganda’s first win of the tournament after drawing the first two games and the KCCA coach says that the boys have been tirelessly working to win a game.

“Our boys have been trying so much to see that they win any game but today God willingly they have done their best until we won against a strong team DR Congo”.

Uganda will face Eritrea who defeated hosts Ethiopia in the last Ranking match on Thursday.

“Eritrea is a good team, they are strong and in the U20 Cup in 2019 in Gulu we played out a 3-3 draw”. “They see each other they maintain their norm but we also have our nature and character we have our own style of play”.

“So we need to continue building again this team so that we can win our last game with Eritrea inorder to get a better ranking.”
