Najib Yiga scored a beauty as Uganda Kobs edged Eritrea in a ranking match at the CECAFA U23 tournament.
Najib opened the scores before halftime and Steven Mukwala doubled the advantage later on for Morley Byekwaso’s charges.
Yonatan Teketse halved the deficit in the 89th minute but the Kobs held on for a deserved victory.
Yiga, bagging his second goal of the tournament, scored with the outside of his boot after Steven Mukwala’s delivery was set by Ivan Bogere.
The left footed effort went direct into the roof to leave Eritrean goalkeeper rooted to his line.
There were heart breaking scenes after Eritrean attacker Ali Suliman lost his consciousness after a collision with keeper Charles Lukwago. The forward was rushed to hospital.

Uganda End Unbeaten, But Nothing To Celebrate
Uganda Kobs drew both of their games to finish second in Group A and hence miss a place in the semis.
The tournament was designed in a format that the top team in each of 3 three-team groups qualified to the semis. The three were joined by the one best runner up from all the three groups.
After missing the semis, Uganda had to settle for placement games, a lowly achievement for the pre tournament favourites.
They beat DR Congo thanks to Najib Yiga and edged Eritrea on Wednesday to take the fifth spot.
The top four spots will be determined by Friday’s games as South Sudan face Kenya in a fight for third place while Tanzania and Burundi are in the final.
