Uganda Netball Federation Extends Covid19 Relief Funds To Players, Coaches

The Uganda Netball Federation has extended Covid relief funds to 37 national team players and three coaches.

Newly elected President Hon Sarah Babirye Kityo revealed that they gave out 100,000/= each.

“Today we called 37 National Team players (She Cranes) and 3 coaches and gave them 100000/= each” she confirms.

“Ever since Covid-19 and different lockdowns started our Netball players have not been given anything most especially the National Team players.”

She adds that they found 4M on the account which the previous Executive said it’s the Covid relief money the World Netball Federation sent to Uganda.

“God blessed us when he had just entered the office the International Netball Federation sent 4M to the federation that Mrs. Anek and her team left in the account.

“Those 4M are little because we are still new, we had alot of things to work on that cannot wait”. “We had to draft strategic plans, work plans, budget we had to work on the office so we weren’t able to look for money to give these players”.

In June, Babirye collected 184 votes to win Jocelyn Ucanda who managed 41 votes and Christine Nampijja with five votes and take up the Uganda Netball Federation presidency.

“When they gave us the money they told us we can use it to rent offices or buying necessities but our needs are of 40 Billion so 4 Million cannot help and we thought of first helping players before thinking about ourselves”.

Hon Babirye also promises that his Federation will take care of the player’s welfare because they are precious and important.

“Its so crucial to think about the player’s welfare so this Federation we think that we shall so anything possible in our reach to make sure that we look after our players well”.

“We shall make them feel that they are precious and the career they chose is important because its loved and respected”.
