CECAFA: KCCA VS KMKM: Preview, Probable Lineups and How To Watch

Thursday, August 5
*Azam FC (Tanzania) vs Messager Ngozi (Burundi), 4pm
*KMKM (Zanzibar) Vs KCCA FC (Uganda), 7pm

KCCA FC will go all out to make amends in their second CECAFA Kagame Cup game against Zanzibar’s KMKM on Thursday.

The defending champions suffered a 2-0 loss to Azam FC on Monday thanks to a brace from Peter Paul Kasunda.

KCCA FC were the second best on the night but were unlucky as well after Denis Iguma and Julius Poloto were both denied by the woodwork.

A loss for the Lugogo-based side will mean end of the road before they face Messager Ngozi from Burundi.

Coach Morley Byekwaso is aware of what is at stake and will be hoping for an improved performance from his boys after a sluggish start.

“We had a nice game. A game where we created many chances. In football, results count a lot. They took their chances while we didn’t take ours and at the end they punished us. We need to get more clinical infront of goal. We hit the woodwork thrice against Azam FC. We should be scoring all these chances,” Morley Byekwaso is quoted by the club media.

“The players lost it in the second half. Tired legs messed us and it is because we have not prepared sufficiently for the tournament due to the lockdown that was in our country. We have to put all that aside and try to fight for the badge as defending Champions.”

Brian Majwega was outstanding in his second debut for the club. He was played in advanced positions and managed to create a couple of chances with his troublesome crosses while tracking back to help the team in defence.

KCCA FC looked porous with their three-man defence as the boys – Denis Iguma, Peter Magambo and Musa Ramathan – struggled in terms of communication and transition but the rigid Byekwaso is expected to stick with his philosophy.

However, Byekwaso may ring one or two changes from the team that started the loss to Azam.

Probable Lineups – Hassan Matovu, Denis Iguma, Peter Magambo, Musa Ramathan, Gift Ali, Herbert Achai, Brian Majwega, Ashraf Mugume, Juma Balinya, Sam Ssenyonjo, Julius Poloto.

Who is KMKM?

KMKM is Kikosi Maalum cha Kuzuia Magendo Sports Club, in full.

They are a football club from Zanzibar based in Unguja.

They have won their league title six times, only Mlandege FC has won more with seven.

No club from Zanzibar has ever won CECAFA Kagame Cup or finish second.

In their first Group B match, KMKM played a 1-1 draw with Burundi’s Le Messager Ngozi – Akbar Muderi netted for the Burundian side, while Mohamed Said Mohamed scored for KMKM.

Coached by Ame Msimu, KMKM will be hoping to defy odds and stun KCCA FC on Thursday.

How To Watch – The match, like all other CECAFA Kagame Cup games, is live on Azam Sports two. You can also watch in online via Azam.
