SC Villa Elections: Buoyant Mbidde Picks Nomination Forms

Dennis Mbidde Ssebugwawo formally confirmed his interest in running in this year’s SC Villa elections when he picked nomination forms.

Mbidde picked the forms on Wednesday at the club offices in Industrial area and declared his interest to become the club president for the next four years.

SC Villa, the record 16-time Uganda Premier League winners, will go to polls on August 27-28, 2021.

The renown Sports marketer and administration who is a former club Vice President, is confident that he is the right man to steer the gigantic club forward.

“I have come to pick the normination forms as I prepare to contest for the Sc Villa presidency in 2021/25,” Mbidde confirmed on arrival at Villa offices, in an interview with Ug Sports.

“The Election process is fine, we have followed this from start, we have come a long way. The time is right and what we are up to is getting good leadership. We started last year in October with about 600 people to get the right owners of the club. It is time to have our own leadership through elections.”

The process of picking forms will close on Thursday, August 5 before they are submitted between now and August 7.

The final declaration of candidature will be announced by the Electoral committee on August 14.

Mbidde expressed his delight in starting the journey to take back the club at the top. “Villa is one of the historical clubs with the most trophies, fans and one of the most respected clubs on the land. There is no better club than Villa on the pitch, we have won it all. But the problems have been coming outside the pitch.

“We want to own our own stadium (home ground) and also create a self sustained club. One of my main objective is to see SC Villa win trophies all over Africa.

“We need to work hand in hand. Everyone at Villa should participate in this process. We created a congress, now going to executive body, board of trustees is in place, then secretariat where I have picked the forms. We are on a level where one person can no longer decide for the club. I’m happy to see that everyone is participating.

“The problem has been poor results on the pitch. People still thought that one person could handle the club and solve it’s problems.”

In 2014, Mbidde pulled out of the Elections to support Ben Misagga while in 2018 he was locked out.

“There has been an achievement for instance in the last elections, people were saying I don’t belong to Villa, we had two constitutions, for us we had ours and even our competitors had theirs.

“But so far, the Villa ownership was sorted. The founders decided to hand over Villa to trustees, the people who paid the Sh50,000 they are the owners of the club. The constitution is now in place on even the club website. I thank the founders for that, it’s an achievement and thank them for giving us a foundation.”

On his executive in case he wins, Mbidde revealed: “For one to be in the executive, you must be in the Congress. There will be professionals, technical people, lawyers, sponsors and many new faces like the fans. I have seen many of the fans who have great ideas to keep the club going forward. I call upon all Villa fans to support me. I have grown up at Villa, in the ups and downs of the club, I am the right candidate.”

For presidential candidates, they must submit a proof of Education level of at least UACE (form six) of UNEB or its equivalent, proof of Identity like a National ID, Drivers Licence or Passport.

They must also provide proof of payment of non-refundable nomination fee (Sh2m for President).

Results of elections will be revealed on Sunday, August 2021 via the club official website.
