Express FC will be targeting a spot in the final when they take on KMKM from Zanzibar in the first semifinal of the ongoing 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The Red Eagles whp qualified as Group A winners with seven points, will fancy themselves against the Zanzibar side who were runners up in Group B that had also KCCA FC.
It has been an impressive outing for the Champions of the Uganda Premier League who beat Atlabara in the opener, drew with Big Bullets before easing past Young Africans.
Against Young Africans, a powerhouse of Tanzanian football, Eric Kambale, Muzamir Mutyaba and Godfrey Lwesibawa were on target in a convincing 3-1 victory.
Coach Wasswa Bbosa will be without Winger Lwesibawa who is suspended while Midfielder Abel Eturude makes a return since that send off in their opener.
“We are ready for the semifinals,” coach Bbosa is quoted by the club media.
“KMKM is a good team and focused but the most important thing is that we are also focused and we want to win so that we reach the final.
“The level at which we are playing is changing per game, we are becoming more match fit and confident. So we hope it will help us even in Kampala when we go to face BUL in the Uganda Cup.”
Besides the Uganda Cup, Express are also using the tournament to fine tune for their long awaited adventure in CAF Champions League.
Captain Enock Walusimbi picked a knock against Young Africans but is expected to retain his place in the starting XI.

How Good is KMKM?
KMKM is Kikosi Maalum cha Kuzuia Magendo Sports Club, in full. And are a football club from Zanzibar based in Unguja.
They have won their league title six times, only Mlandege FC has won more with seven.
No club from Zanzibar has ever won CECAFA Kagame Cup or finish second.
In their first Group B match, KMKM played a 1-1 draw with Burundi’s Le Messager Ngozi – Akbar Muderi netted for the Burundian side, while Mohamed Said Mohamed scored for KMKM.
Getting out of the groups, and is a big milestone and many will see it as punching above weight.
They started the Group B campaign with a 1-1 draw against Messager Ngozi. Mohamed Said Mohamed scoring their equaliser.
They lost to KCCA FC 1-0 thanks to Herbert Achai to leave the side with outside chances of progressing to the knockout.
They faced Azam FC in their last group B game – Salum Musa, Abdul Rahman Othman and Adam Ibrahim Abdallah scored the second half goals in a 3-2 win.
That win coupled with a defeat against KCCA FC on the same day ensured KMKM extend their fairly tale.
