CECAFA: FUFA Promises Winning Bonus to Express FC

The Federation of Uganda football Association (FUFA) has pledged to award winning bonuses to both Express FC players and technical staff ahead of their 2021 CECAFA Kagame Cup finals.

The new development comes following the Red Eagles’ semi-final victory to storm into the finals of the tournament, overcoming a spirited KMKM side from Zanzibar by a 2-1 scoreline on Tuesday 10th August 2021.

Goals from offensively oriented midfielder Muzamiru Mutyaba off a direct free-kick and a late penalty conversion by forward Eric Kambale were enough to secure passage into the final.

As a result, the Federation has pledged to reward the Uganda Premier League Champions with USD.25,000 in the event that they get to deliver the holy grail on home soil.

A list of 21 players in camp and four officials that include: the Leader of Delegation, head Coach, Assistant coach and goalkeeping Coach will earn USD.1,000 each as pledged by FUFA.

As was the case during the 2019 edition, the Federation made the same pledge to already ousted defending Champions KCCA FC, who went ahead to win the title with a 1-0 victory against Azam FC.

The pledge is said to have been fulfilled to perfection and the amount paid to the Lugogo based side.

To get there however, the Red Eagles will have to demolish the winner between Azam and Big Bullets (match scheduled for Wednesday) in the tournament finals that are slated to take place on Saturday.

It is understood that the winner of the tournament gets to walk home with a cash prize of $30,000, the runners-up take $20,000, while the third placed team gets to bank $10,000.

The Red Eagles have surely enjoyed a good run at the tournament and making the finals is a clear manifestation of that. They topped their Group B with seven points from a possible nine before overcoming KMKM in the semi finals.

They have made the finals to the tournament for the first time since 1995 and will surely have their sights on winning it.
