CECAFA Sets New Dates for Zonal Women Champions League Qualifiers

CECAFA has cleared the Women Champions League zonal Qualifiers to take place starting on August 28th to September 9th in Nairobi, Kenya.

Earlier, these said qualifiers were slated to kick kick-off on July 17th until late August but were postponed due to the unavailability of the Kasarani Stadium, the host venue.

The Executive Director of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), Auka Gecheo confirmed the new proceedings on Tuesday night.

This is what he had to say in his media press conference:

“We have finally agreed with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on the new dates that the qualifiers will take place. We shall also re-do the draw to have two pools with four teams each.”

Their hand seems to have been forced by the withdrawal of Rwanda’s Scadinavian WFC which left a vacuum to the pools since three teams had been placed in each pool in the earlier draw conducted the previous month.

He further confirmed that all the matches will be played at both the Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums in Kenya, the same hosts as earlier communicated.

The eventual champions of this contest will book a direct spot to the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League that is to be held in Egypt later this year.
