CECAFA: Express FC Learn Opponent In Final

It is now confirmed that reigning Uganda Premier League Champions Express FC will face Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets in the CECAFA Kagame Cup finals slated to take place this Saturday 14th August 2021 at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium.

This follows Nyasa’s 4-2 penalties triumph against Tanzanian side Azam FC on Wednesday evening in the last semi-final fixture. The two sides played out a 2-2 in normal time.

The Red Eagles on-the-other-hand had taken care of business in the previous Tuesday against Zanzibar side KMKM. A result to behold for Wasswa Bbosa’s side.

The two sides will meet for the second time in this year’s competition following their (1-1) Group A draw to condemn both the Group leaders and the runners-up to shared spoils.

The Malawian side, who also double as the tournament guests were the first and possibly last side to expose Express FC’s midfield limitations and push them to the back in a surrender-like exhibition.

Friday will play host to the third-place-match between Azam FC and KMKM at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium while Saturday will be the day the tournament draws to a conclusion.

It is understood that the winner of the tournament takes home a cash prize of $30,000, the runners-up bank $20,000, while the third placed team gets to walk away with $10,000.

The technical team, players and the entire hierarchy at the Wankurukuku based side will be hoping for better luck as they approach their first finals since 1995. The plan is clear, to win it.

Question however remains whether they can deliver the holy grail. Going by their performances however in the group stages and at the semi-finals, maybe it is ‘coming home’ after all, it might just be coming home.
