World Cup Qualifiers: Sentamu relishes working under Micho again

Vipers SC forward Yunus Sentamu has expressed gratitude towards a reunion with the new Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic following his inclusion in the 30-man squad summoned for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Sentamu, who broke to prominence at the 2014 CHAN tournament hosted in South Africa has scored a total of 4 goals with the Cranes in 13 caps and seemed delighted at the realization that he would represent the country yet again.

He is expected to have more goals with the national team but hasn’t been part of the setup since 2014, following an altercation with coach Micho, thereby pushing him out of contention.

The former AS Vita Club player was rightfully the Uganda Premier League topscorer the previous season with 16 goals for the Kitende based side who he joined in January 2021 after a sabbatical from the game.

“Am happy and humbled to join the camp. I took part in my first training with the club on Tuesday and loved the energy from my colleagues. It was also great seeing coach Micho yet again.” He stated.

When asked about the Cranes’ chances against East African counterparts Kenya and distant neighbours Mali-who we get to play much later, Sentamu had this to say:

“The preparations are moving smoothly in my view and that will be important as we get into the game against Kenya. The technical team is helping us with fitness so we have a good chance in both games.”

To get to the World Cup Qualifiers, the Uganda Cranes will need to first negotiate two friendly games against Syria and Ethiopia. The game against Syria is likely to be played over two legs.

Prior to his return to Vipers for a second stint, Yunus Sentamu had been with AS Vita Club, CS Sfaxien, FC Ilves and Tirana.
