World Junior Championship: Tarsis Orogot Targets Success in 100m

Uganda’s Sprinter Tarsis Orogot will be seeking for triumph as the 2021 World U20 Championship gets underway at the Kasarani Stadium in Kenya.

Orogot who is doubling (100m and 200m) at the event, will be in action in the Men’s 100m heats.

He will be in lane four of the third heat at 10:36am on Wednesday.

Orogot holds Uganda’s National Record in the 100m thanks to his 10:35 he posted in July this year at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani at the World U20 Trials.

He also ran 10:78 at Namboole later this month during the nationals.

The youngster who will be turning 19 in November, will be seeking for a place in the semifinals which will be held later in the afternoon.

The top three among the eight the heat, and next fastest six across six heats will advance to the semis.

Orogot has the second fastest time after Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo (10:24) in his heat and will be favourite to advance to the semis.

Uganda, a region powerhouse in long distances, has struggled to find success in sprint in recent memory since exits of Olympics medalists John Aki-Bua and Davis Kamoga.

Since 1986, Uganda has won 13 medals at the World Junior Championships.

This year, the Athletics Federation has sent a team of 10 (two women and eight men) for the even in Kenya.

Dismas Yeko and Dan Kibet will be in action later in the day (5:45pm) for the 3000m final.
