Uganda’s long distance runners Dismas Yeko and Dan Kibet will be in action in the 3000m men’s final at the 2021 World Junior Championship in Kenya on Wednesday at 5:45pm.
The two are part of Uganda’s 10-man team in Kenya for the event.
Both have run 8:06 this year – Yeko (8:06.03) and Kibet (8:06.12) – posting the times during the 6th UAF Trials at Namboole in April.
They will be required to better those times if they are to enter the medal bracket.
Kibet won the 2021 U20 Uganda Cross Country in Tororo in February.
Kenya’s Daniel Kinyanjui and Bernard Kibet Yegon will be going for a 1-2, while Ethiopia’s duo of Tadese Worku and Ali Abdilmana who have also run a sub-eight minute 3000m this year will be top favourites to break the possible Kenya assault.
The 3000m race will feature for the first time at the world junior competition after the World Athletics replaced the 10,000m.
