Clinton Kamugisha: Big League Top Scorer Target For UPL Giants

Nyamityobora FC captain Clinton Kamugisha has emerged on the radar of Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC.

Kamugisha scored 12 goals to finish as the top scorer for the concluded 2020/21 FUFA Big League season.

It is reported that the attacker was recently contacted by KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso.

Kamugisha has not confirmed nor refuted the reports but has stated that he wants to play in the top flight again.

His dream of Uganda Premier League football was recently shattered after Nyamityobora were humbled by Gaddafi FC in the Big League playoffs at Njeru on Sunday.

“It was a really bad feeling because we wanted to make it to the Uganda Premier League,” said Kamugisha referring to Nyamityobora’s failure in the playoffs.

“We could have done better but we were not organised as a team right from the administration to us the players.

“I do not think we were ready physically, mentally and most of all financially.”

On winning the golden boot, an accolade that comes with Sh1m, he stated: “I feel happy and motivated to achieve more.”

On his future, Kamugisha was brief and precise: “Staying is a probability because I want to play in the Premier League again.”

Kamugisha, born June 15 1999, studied at Mbarara Central Primary School, Hillside Academy Itojo, Rutoma SS and Ryakasinga CHE.

He started out at Mbarara Sports Academy, joined Nyamityobora in 2015 before stints at Mbarara City FC in 2017/18. He later switched to Wakiso Giants and helped the side achieve UPL status.

He left the Purple Sharks in 2019 to return to Nyamityobora FC.

Did you know: Kamugisha was the Western Regional MVP as he helped Nyamityobora get promoted to Big League in 2015/16 season.
