World Junior Championship: Chesang Falls Short As Maru Reaches Final

Uganda’s Prisca Chesang missed out on a medal at the ongoing World Junior Athletics Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.

Chesang finished fourth in her Personal Best time of 9:03.44 on Thursday at Kasarani Stadium.

However, her time was not enough as she finished behind gold winner Teresiah Muthoni Gateri (Kenya), Zenah Jemutai Yego (Kenya) and Melknat Wudu (Ethiopia) who took silver and bronze respectively.

This was Chesang’s third international competition having competed at the Tokyo Olympics and the Olympics Qualifiers in Hengelo earlier.

Chesang will be hoping for better fortunes in the Women’s 5000m at the championships this Sunday, August 22 at 5:10 pm.

Peter Maru is through to the Men’s 1500m final due this Saturday.

He came fourth in heat one with 3:48.28 on Day two on Thursday.

Rogers Kibet (13:57.97) was seventh while Martin Magengo Kiprotich (14:15.62) was ninth as Kenya’s Benson Kiplangat beat stunned Ethiopian Tadese Worku to take 3000m gold.

Tarsis Orogot returns in Men’s 200m on Friday. He will be in lane five of heat three at 11:54, with top four and next fastest four across the five heats through to the semis.

Elphas Toroitoich Ndiwa and Leonard Chemutai will be in the Men’s 3000m steeplechase heats at 2:29pm.
