Uganda’s solo representatives at the inaugural CAF Women Champions League Cecafa Zonal Qualifiers, Lady Doves WFC, have named their travelling contingent ahead of the tournament that is to be hosted in Nairobi, Kenya.
The travelling group of 35 people will depart the country on Wednesday morning aboard Uganda Airlines for the tournament which is scheduled to take place between 28th August to 9th September 2021.
This contingent consists of 22 players, one team doctor, a leader of delegation from the federation, two officials and the rest being members of the technical team.
Proline FC goalkeeping coach Muwada Byuma and Performance Analyst Nkugwa Rogers, who were recently added on the technical bench for the believers also make the trip.
The national U17 team head coach Ayub Khalifa, who had earlier been appointed on the technical bench has however not been included due to his commitment with the Crested Cranes team that is gearing up for the Cosafa Tournament slated to take place in South Africa.
The recent acquisitions to the team like goalkeeper Daphine Nyayenga, Halima Kanyango, Gloria Namugerwa, Zahara Nankya and Spencer Nakachwa have also been named as part of the team.
In preparation for this adventure, the Uganda Women Football Association (UWFA) paid a courtesy visit to Uganda Martyrs High school Rubaga on Monday (August 23rd), where the team underwent a residential camp.
They have since been in camp till present and team captain and goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro was candid enough to thank the association for helping to boost the team ahead of the tourney.
“We thank the Association for visiting us here in camp and boosting us ahead of the competition. We promise to go to Kenya and do our best so as to emerge as winners.” She assured the press.
The reigning 2021 FUFA Women Super League champions are pitted in Group A alongside Tanzania’s Simba Queens, Burundi’s PVP FC and FAD FC from Djibouti.
They will be the first team in action in Group A in the opening match against Djibouti’s FAD FC on August 28th at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya at 4pm.
After the group games, the top two teams from each group will progress to the semi finals and the eventual champions of this Championship will book a direct spot in the inaugural CAF Women Champions league to be held in Egypt later this year.
