Uganda Crested Cranes goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi got off the mark with a clean-sheet for her new Danish side Boldklubben AF during their thriller against Lynge-Broby IF on Thursday August 26th.
Boldklubben AF were impressive on the evening as they took their opponents to the cleaners with an 8-0 masterclass, leaving their adversaries in a sorry state.
For Karungi, this was her debut game since joining a few days ago and honestly, the trajectory couldn’t have gone any better.
The young and promising custodian only completed her move to the Danish side Women’s team last week following her departure from FUFA Women Super League side She Corporates.
The 19-year is said to have penned a two-year employment contract with the Denmark first division outfit on 19th August 2021. This also doubles as her first professional contract outside Uganda.
While in Uganda, Karungi played for Olila Girls High from the year 2016 to 2018 before returning to She Corporates where she massively impressed the previous season thereby earning the move to Denmark.
In 2017, Karungi was named USPA Female Footballer of the year, best goalkeeper in FUFA Women’s Cup and best goalkeeper in the National Ball games held in Kabaale.
Women football in Uganda has been on a drastic rise lately and Karungi’s move to Europe might be the necessary boost that was needed to open up doors to many young female players in the country to improve and earn a move out there.
