Uganda Cranes: Micho Ends Khalid Aucho’s Brief Hiatus

Khalid Aucho is among the five foreign based players who joined the Cranes camp in Ethiopia.

The midfielder started the National team’s 2-1 loss to the hosts in a warm up game on Sunday ahead of the Qatar World Cup Qualifers against Kenya and Mali.

Aucho returns to international fold almost five months after his much vaunted suspension from national team.

The bubbly midifelder was suspended from national duty for faliure to adhere to the national team code of conduct for crucial Afcon qualifers against Burkina Faso and Malawi in March and it was apparent that his relationship with Ugandan Football Association(FUFA) was tense- to put it mildly.

Even though the player was remorseful by penning down an apology for his feud, his national team future was shrouded with uncertainty of sorts after he was overlooked for another high profile friendly against South Africa.

Of course, Aucho’s contract impasse with Egyptian side El Makkasa dulled his football career and didn’t help to this cause too.

But the return of Micho as Cranes Coach was expected to alter the course of Aucho’s wilderness and it has come to pass literally.

During the Serbian’s first tenure as Cranes boss between 2013-2017, the newly signed Yanga SC player was a pivotal figure in the National team set-up. Him, Denis Onyango, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda and Geoffrey Massa were the first names on the Serb’s team sheet. And it seems their is no love lost between Aucho and Micho.

The seniority Aucho adds to the squad as its reeling from the retirement of a host senior national team players will be key.
