Crested Cranes Striker Sandra Nabweteme Eyes COSAFA Triumph

Uganda Crested Cranes and FH striker Sandra Nabweteme has set her sights on winning the COSAFA women’s Championships that is due to kick off next week.

The Crested Cranes are in residential camp ahead of the AFCON Women’s Qualifiers against Ethiopia and the COSAFA tournament.

Speaking at the camp in Njeru, the 2015 FUFA Female player of the year relishes the opportunity to represent her country again.

“I feel happy and privileged to be at the national team having been given the opportunity to come back here and represent the country its something everyone works for,” Nabweteme stated.

Before the AFCON Qualifiers, Crested Cranes will compete in the COSAFA Women’s Championships where they are pitted in Group C alongside Eswatini, Namibia and Zambia.

“It’s an advantage to everyone of us because some of our players have not been active due to COVID-19 and everything but having been given the opportunity to go and prepare for AFCON to first go and have a build up tournament it’s a good opportunity.”

This will be the second time that Uganda plays at the COSAFA women’s championships with the maiden appearance coming in 2018.

Then, the Crested Cranes settled for a third place but Nabweteme thinks they should do better than that.

“The target is to do better than we did last time, the goal should be winning the tournament.”

“Then we go and play Ethiopia in the AFCON Qualifiers to see that we qualify to the next round.”
