Enyimba FC have appointed Nigeria Super Eagles legend George Finidi, the club announced on Wednesday.
Enyimba, a club based in Abia state, are Nigeria league record winners having won the title eight times – 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009/10, 2015 and 2019.
Finidi replaces Fatai Osho whose contract expired last month.
His first assignment will be a clash with Diambers FC (Senegal) in CAF Confederation Cup.
Enyimba have won the CAF Champions League twice in 2003 and 2004.
“I have to say it’s a great opportunity for the club to have this confidence in me. I want to thank the chairman, the members of the board, and the supporters for even thinking about me,” Finidi told the club media.
“On my own part, I will be here to just work and do the job. It’s never going to be easy but I’m here to work and make the team win.”
Finidi won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994 with Nigeria and was part of the squad that reached the final in 2000 and two third-place finishes in 1992 and 2002.
He represented Nigeria at two World Cups of 1994 (USA) and 1998 (France).
The winger, in his playing days at club level, won the Champions League with Ajax in 1994/95 and was a beaten finalist the following year.
He won the Eredivisie (Netherland League) three and had stints with Real Betis, Mallorca and Ipswich.
