URA FC managed to overcome Ethiopian Coffee to advance to the second preliminary round of the 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Tax Collectors who won 2-1 in Kitende, picked a 3-1 victory to sail through with a 5-2 aggregate victory.

URA FC sat deep as the hosts laid siege in their half in the opening stanza and goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi was called out to deny a keeper-to-beat opportunity.

Despite being outplayed, Cromwell Rwothomio put the visitors in the lead when he was put through by Shafic Kagimu to score from a rebound after his initial shot was kept out by the goalkeeper.

The tie was all but done before the hour-mark when URA FC scored two quick fire goals to lead 3-0 (4-0 on agg).

Right-back Ashraf Mandela found himself inside the box to bundle home, and two minutes later, unmarked Kagimu got the other after an assist from Mukwala in a build up that was engineered by Patrick Mbowa.

Ethiopian Coffee pulled one back from the spot with 20 minutes still on the clock thanks to Asrat Tunjo but URA closed down spaces and ensured that they leave Bahir Dar unscathed.

However, Kagimu and Rwothomio were stretchered off hurt in the closing stages.

URA FC will now meet Al Masry of Egypt who were exempted to take part at the first Preliminary stage.

Al Masry were knocked out by KCCA FC in 2017 at the playoff round but has since made major strides in the competition.

They have made the groups twice including the 2019/20 season when they were eliminated by eventual winners RS Berkane in the quarters.

The Tax Collectors will host the first leg on October 15-17 before an away tie a week later.

Disciplined URA FC Stroll Through

After URA FC won 2-1 at Kitende, the lead looked so slim for URA FC to defend for the side that gave away a goal in the first leg.

The opening minutes of the second leg revealed how huge a mountain awaited URA.

They were made to chase the ball as the hosts enjoyed most of the possession.

Despite Ethiopian Coffee dominating for extended stretches, its URA FC who looked more of a threat everytime they went up front.

Shafic Kagimu had a freekick well defended while Mukwala headed poorly from a good cross by Joachim Ojera.

Trailing by a goal, the hosts centre back was lucky to escape with a yellow card after intentionally punching Rwothomio.

The two quick fire goals in the space of about two minutes were a quick reminder to Ethiopian Coffee that possession football is nothing without being effective.

URA FC, under coach Sam Timbe, marches on to the next round on their return to the Continent.

They made their debut in 2006 when they were eliminated by Al-Merrikh at the round of 32. In 2015, they ousted ASSM Elgeco Plus of Madagascar at the preliminary round before falling to Orlando Pirates at the first round.
