U20 Women’s National Team head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi has given his general assessment after the team’s practice games against Crested Cranes.
He made the remarks following the 1-0 loss to Crested Cranes on Monday in the third build up game. This was the second loss out of the three build up games with the Crested Cranes winning twice while Kiyingi’s charges have only one victory.
Speaking after the game, the gaffer admitted the girls didn’t perform well on the day.
“We have had our last trial match against Crested Cranes where we have lost 1-0. The girls didn’t perform well as I expected,” he said.
At the restart of the second half, Khalifa made a couple of changes on the team, leaving only Grace Aluka and Biira Nadunga as he named a new team.
When asked about the decision, the head coach says it was aimed at assessing some of his players.
“My main target was to test and assess the performance of some girls, I have seen their performance and I have now got a final judgement to say that they are ready to represent us.
Despite the defeat on the day, Kiyingi is optimistic that his side will be good to go when they face Kenya.
“The results were not good, I never liked the performance actually I expected some change in the second half which didn’t happen but am hopeful by the time we reach Kenya the team will be good to go.”
The three build up games have been a good test for the U20 Women National team as they gear up for the Kenya test.
Uganda is preparing for the first round of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup where they will face Kenya with the game slated between 23rd- 25th September 2021. The return leg will be in Kampala two weeks later.
