Six Dropped As Crested Cranes Squad Takes Shape

Crested Cranes coach George Lutalo has trimmed his squad that is currently in Camp at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The team is preparing for the the 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa due 28th September to 9th October 2021.

The tournament will fine tune the team for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifiers where the Crested Cranes will play Ethiopia at the first round phase.

Six players have been dropped – goalkeeper Elsie Najjemba (Rines WFC), defendersJustin Kizza Najjuko (She Maroons FC) and Marion Amangat (Olila High), Midfielders Joan Naggayi (She Maroons FC) and Kautharah Naluyima (She Maroons FC) and Grace Nassongo (Amuria High School FC).

Striker Fazila Ikwaput (Lady Doves FC) who was initially summoned in the provisional squad did not turn up due to an injury she picked while at CAF Champions League Qualifiers (CECAFA) with Lady Doves.

Consequently, Vihiga Queens (Kenya) midfielder Joan Nabirye was brought in as a replacement.

Yudaya Nakayenze (Lindey Wilson College, USA) and Shiraz Natasha (Maccabi Kishronot Hadera, Israel) will join the team in South Africa.

There are currently 24 players in camp and with the final squad of 20 to be named at a later date before departure on September 27.

The Crested Cranes are grouped in Pool C alongside Zambia, Namibia and Eswatini.
