Uganda Cranes midfielder Tadeo Lwanga was sent off as his side Simba SC lost 1-0 to Khalid Aucho’s Young Africans in the 2021 Tanzania Community Shield.

Lwanga was given his second yellow for a foul of Salum Abdallah late in the game at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium for Msimbazi to finish with a numerical disadvantage.

Fiston Mayele first half strike in the 12th minute was enough to see Yanga win their first trophy of the season.

The Community Shield is usually the first game ahead of the new season with the winners of the FA Cup playing League Champions.

It was a battle between the two Uganda Cranes Midfielders who were meeting for the first time in a traditional rival clash between the two Tanzanian giants.

Despite the many chances from both sides, Lwanga’s Simba were the second best team on the day as they were always on the receiving end.

The two sides will now refocus on the new 2021/22 Tanzania premier league that is slated to kick off on Monday September 27.

In their opening games, defending champions Simba will be up against Biashara away from home on Tuesday September 28, while Yanga play Kagera Sugar the following day.

Last season, Lwanga’s Simba clinched the 2020/21 league title, their fourth in a row having previously won it in the 2017/18, 2018/19 and in the 2019/20 last season.
