Crested Cranes Final Squad For COSAFA Women Tourney Named

Uganda Women’s national football team, The Crested Cranes, has left the country on Monday morning for the Cosafa Women Championship in South Africa.

Team Coach George Lutalo revealed his final squad of 20 players to take part in the tournament.

The tournament will fine tune the team for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations Qualifiers where the Crested Cranes will play Ethiopia at the first round phase.

Per FUFA Website, Lutalo said: “We have had about two weeks of preparations and the final 20 players named are those that excelled in training. I have the belief that the team named will do well in South Africa,”

Goalkeeper Gloria Namakula (Tooro Queens FC), Resty Kobusobozi (Tooro Queens FC) and Anita Namata (Uganda Martyrs High School FC) have been dropped.

Foreign based duo Yudaya Nakayenze (Lindey Wilson College, USA) and Shiraz Natasha (Maccabi Kishronot Hadera, Israel) will NOT join the team in South Africa as earlier stated.

The team has been at Njeru preparing for the event and had three practice matches, winning two, with the Women U20 team.

Uganda is in Group C alongside Zambia, Eswatini and Namibia.

This will be Lutalo’s first assignment having replaced Faridah Bulega who was having a coaching Course in Kenya.
