Sam Ssimbwa’s Team Dubymax Hasule managed to overcome Mike Mutebi’s Team Dubymax Kirunda in the first ever StarTimes UPL All-Star game at Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

The league’s curtain raiser for the forthcoming 2021/22 season is an initiative of UPL Sponsor StarTimes and Dubymax Electronics.

Goals from Striker Samuel Ssekamate (own goal) and substitute Joseph Ssemujju handed Ssimbwa’s side bragging rights in a star-studded game.

“This was made to let the fans be actively involved. We gave them the power to vote for the best players,” said StarTimes Uganda Head of Public Relations Christine Kikomeko.

“We want to make this a habit in that its held before every start of the new Uganda Premier League season.”

The public nominated their favourite stars and the pool of players with the highest number of votes made it to the final list from which the coaches formed their respective teams.

Like any other Mutebi team, Team Dubymax was dominant from the word go but failed to breach Joel Mutakubwa’s goal.

Mutebi’s side lost Enock Walusimbi early in the game after colliding with Martin Kizza before he was stretchered off for Aziz Kayondo.

Bobosi Byaruhanga sent his freekick over the bar as Mutebi’s side tried to take command.

Ssekamatte scored into his own net when he connected on Saidi Kyeyune’s corner in the first half for the opening goal.

The second goal was a solo effort from Ssemujju who drove from his half after pick pocketing Aziz Kayondo to slot past Ali Mwirusi.

For winning the much anticipated game, Ssimbwa pockets Sh5m while every member of his team banked Sh1m.

Mutebi took home Sh3m, his players were awarded Sh500,000 each.

Bobosi Byaruhanga (Team Dubymax Kirunda) was voted the Most Valuable Player of the match.
