Uganda Taekwondo Turns To Regional Tour For National Team Selection

The Interim Committee of the Uganda Taekwondo Federation has embarked on regional tour in the country.

The committee intends to use the regional visits to select the National team ahead of forthcoming events.

All eyes are on the Kenya Open in Nairobi in December 2021 and Commonwealth games in Birmingham next year.

On Saturday, the selection team was in Gulu were over 200 fighters took part in the event.

“I am impressed with the turn up,” briefly stated Judith Aujo, the Secretary General of the Uganda Taekwondo Federation.

“We are using these tours to select the National team as we move to up lift the sport right from grassroots.”

Next on the menu is a tour to Lira before Mbale.

Mark Ogwang, Vice President Technical, said that they want to select 32 players after the finals at Lugogo on October 8.

Duncan Oketayot, Chairman Technical, said that they are looking for cream de la cream that will be used for the National team.

This month, the interim committee was handed a five-month extension by the member clubs to steer the sport to sanity after the initial six-month period had expired on September 3rd 2021.
