Young Players Hungry For Success – Captain Aucho

Khalid Aucho insists that the current Uganda Cranes squad will deliver against Rwanda despite a heavy reliance on young players in the ongoing FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The Uganda Cranes will leave tonight for Rwanda ahead of Thursday’s clash and the two sides will meet later again after three days at Kitende.

Aucho, recently named as a stand-in captain after the exclusion of club-less Emmanuel Okwi, is one of the few senior players on the team.

The Young African midfielder believes that the senior players will complement the young players as Uganda seek maximum points in Rwanda.

“We have had adequate preparations,” started Aucho on Tuesday during a Press Conference at FUFA house in Mengo.

“The Mood is good in camp and we are targeting for maximum points in this double header.”

On the current make of the squad, he stated: “These boys are like babies who are starting to crawl, its something that they will want to do so much often. They are very hungry and strong, they want to compete and make their nation proud.”

“Coach Micho gave me a chance to play for the Uganda Cranes when I was still a young boy and so I think its good to give these boys a chance as well.”

Only nine foreign based players – including two goalkeepers Charles Lukwago and Ismail Watenga – are in the Cranes team for the Rwanda clash.

Initially, the team had 23 locally based players who started the preparations for the much anticipated East African derby.

Uganda lost to SC Villa 1-0 on Monday after beating URA and KCCA FC 2-1 each in the build up games.

The team has two points from the first two games in group E courtesy of draws against Kenya (away) and Mali (home).
