World Cup Qualifiers: Kone Hat-trick As Mali Put Kenya To The Sword

*Mali 5-0 Kenya

Ibrahima Kone bagged a hat-trick as Mali thrashed Kenya Harambee Stars to return to the top of Group E of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Sarpsborg Striker completed his hat-trick from the spot after Moussa Djenepo was brought down in the area as Mali led 4-0 at the break.

Adama Traore had earlier put Mali in the lead just after eight minutes before the win was sealed after Moussa Doumbia’s effort bounced off substitute goalkeeper Farouk Sikhalo to find the net in the 86th minute.

The game was played at Agadir Stadium in Morocco as Mali’s stadiumadid not meet the requirements to host FIFA international games.

The 5-0 loss is a baptism of fire for new Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat who was brought in shortly to replace sacked Jacob Mulee last month.

The Harambee Stars will hope to make amends at home in the reverse fixture on Sunday.

Mali returns to top with seven points after Uganda Cranes had gone top of the table briefly thanks to a 1-0 win over Rwanda with Fahad Bayo scoring the only goal of the game.

Kenya are third on two points while Rwanda remain bottom with just a single point.

Winner of Group E will join other nine group winners in the play-offs next year for the five slots available for African teams to the World Cup in Qatar.
