Agnes Tirop: Kenyan Olympian Found Dead In Her House

Long distance runner Agnes Tirop who represented Kenya at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics has been found dead in her house in Iten, reports in Kenya have confirmed.

Tirop’s body was found with stab wounds in her abdomen, per reports.

“We condoles with family and friends of Agnes Jebet Tirop,” a statement from Athletics Kenya Federation reads in part.

“We are this afternoon distraught to learn about the untimely death of World 10,000m bronze medalist Agnes Tirop.

“Tirop was found dead at their home in Iten after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband. We are still working to unearth more details surrounding her demise.

“Kenya has lost a jewel who was one of the fastest-rising athletics giants on the international stage, thanks to her eye-catching performances on the track.”

She competed in the women’s 5,000-meter race at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, finishing fourth in a race won by Sifan Hassan of Netherlands.

She won gold at the 2013  Africa Cross Country Championship in Kampala.

In 2017, she participated in the World Championships held in London, winning the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres event.

Last month, Tirop set the new world record in 10km road race after clocking 30:01 during the Adizero Road to Records event in Herzogenaurach, Germany Sunday.
