Pirates Seek Resuscitation As Rugby Sevens Move To Soroti

Black Pirates will look to bounce back after two back to back final defeats to Betway KOBs in the opening legs of the National Rugby Sevens.

The Bweyogerere-based side lost 21-17 in the Mileke final before a 03-00 slim loss last weekend in Gulu.

The one in Gulu was painful, falling to just a drop kick by James Ijongat in the closing stages for the only points of the game.

They have been pitted in Pool B alongside Warriors, Impis and Soroti Rangers in a three-group circuit.

The three Group winners will be joined by next five highest ranked teams to make it eight for the quarterfinals.

Per their team list, Pirates will be without Desire Ayera while Conrad Wanyama has been included on the squad despite suffering an injury when he was hit by KOBs’ Adrian Kasito last weekend.

They have added Stephen Alul and Benson Ngono from the team that featured in Gulu.

Pirates beat Rams (48-0), Mongers (41-0) and Hippos (19-0) to top their group, eased past Impis (50-0) in the quarters before eliminating Heathens (19-12) in the semis in Gulu.

The loss in the final left Pirates in second with 38 points, six below leaders KOBs, with four circuits to go.
