Shafik Kiwanuka Ready for Rematch After Draw with Thompson

Shafik Kiwanuka is ready to fight with South Africa’s Chris ‘the Wolf’ Thompson again after the first bout ended in a draw last week in Tanzania.

The Killing Machine, as Kiwanuka prefers to call himself, blamed his failure to knockout Thompson for his lack of enough preparedness.

While speaking to the press during a press briefing at International University of East Africa, Kiwanuka fancied a second bite on the cherry.

“I want to ask for forgiveness from all my fans that I failed to knock out my opponent. I blame that on my lack of preparedness. I had taken some years without fighting, and I hope that next time, I will bring him down,” Kiwanuka commented.

“It was not easy fight and I came short of the victory, I am going back to training to add more skill, weight and sharpen my swords. I will slice him into pieces.”

Kiwanuka said that he was informed about his fight just 20 days to the D-day.

“I have faced some struggles as a fighter. I am sill looking for a sparring partner so my trainings do not to go as planned. But am willing to give my best next time.”

This was Kiwanuka’s fourth fight since turning pro but his maiden outside Uganda.

Uganda Professional Boxing Commission President Salim Uhuru handed Sh1m to Kiwanuka as a token of appreciation for his spirited performance.

Uhuru stated that “I was very happy and proud” tp see Kiwanuka fight and pledged to support him all the way.

His coach Abdul Tebazalwa stated that Kiwanuka showed a lot of confidence even before the fight but failed to land a knockout. He added that his boxer is growing stronger in the sport and they will just make few corrections here and there before a possible rematch.

Kiwanuka is sponsored by International Univerity of East Africa where he is also a student.

IUEA Director Hassan Alwi, who is also a rally driver, said that Kiwanuka has made them proud and showed a lot of potential.
