2021 Airtel FUFA Awards: Nominees Revealed, All You Need To Know

The nominees for the 2021 Airtel FUFA Awards have been revealed as the organisers seek to reward footballing excellency.

The awards were not held last year due to Covid19 pandemic but have returned this year with 13 categories.

They will be held on December 4 at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo.

Airtel Uganda who have injected Sh100m into the awards, leads a cast of sponsors.

Manoj Murali, Airtel Uganda Managing Director, commended FUFA for laying a good foundation for footballers to showcase their skills.

He added: “Great player always work hard and we are excited to be part of these awards who celebrates best players that go an extra mile to showcase resilience.”

Other sponsors include Nile Special, NIC Holdings, Nivana water, Pepsi, Ecobank, BIDCO and 102.1 FUFA FM.

Male and Female best player nominees revealed:

The Airtel–FUFA Male and Player of the Year 2021 nominees were voted for by the coaches and Captains nominated who sent in a list of five (5) players each.

Airtel-FUFA Male Player of the Year 2021 nominees are Kenzo Erick Kambale (Express FC), Bobosi Byaruhanga (Vipers SC), Yunus Ssentamu (Vipers SC), Abdul Aziizi Kayondo (Vipers SC) and Shafik Kagimu (URA FC).

Kambale was integral as Express FC clinched the league title, their seventh in club history and their first since 2012, scoring 15 goals, one goal below last season’s top scorer Yunus Sentamu who had 16.

Bobosi Aziz and Yunus helped Vipers win the Uganda Cup – The first two were part of Uganda Hippos team that reached the final of the 2021 AFCON U20.

Midfielder Shafic Kagimu scored nine goals to help URA finish second in the league last season.

The Airtel-FUFA Female Player of the Year 2021 are Magret Kunihira (Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC), Joan Naggayi (She Maroons FC), Daisy Nakaziro (Lady Doves FC), Fauzia Najjemba (Kampala Queens FC) and Fazila Ikwaput (Lady Doves FC).

Female: Sandra Nabweteeme (Kawempe Muslim)

2016
Male: Shaban Muhammad (Onduparaka)
Female: Hasifa Nassuuna (Kawempe Muslim S.S)

2017
Male: Muzamiru Mutyaba (KCCA)
Female: Fazilah Ikwaput (Olila high)

2018
Male: Moses Waiswa (Vipers)
Female: Ruth Aturo (UCU Lady Cardinals)

2019
Male: Allan Okello (KCCA)
Female: Juliet Nalukenge (Kawempe Muslim)

2020
Not held due to Covid19

FUFA Executive member Rogers Mulindwa said that other nominees from the other categories will be revealed in the due course.
