T20 World Cup Qualifiers: Uganda Closes In On Regional Final

Uganda – 176/6
Ghana – 97
*Uganda win by 79 runs

Uganda Cricket Cranes have all but qualified to the regional finals of the T20 World Cup Qualifiers after a deserved win over Ghana on Thursday.

The Lawrence Mahatlane-coached side claimed a dominant 79-run victory, their fifth from as many games.

Ghana won the toss and sent in Uganda to bat first, but Uganda were equal to the task and aswered back with a lofty 176.

Opener Saud Islam hit three sixes and five fours in a 54-ball 67 to build a good partnership with Simon Ssesazi who cleared the rope twice on his way to a remarkable 37.

Uganda had to endure a thrilling performance from Rexford Bakum 4-29 who got Sessazi, Ronak Patel, Dinesh Nakrani and Frank Akankwasa, but the damage had already been caused.

Ghana collapsed early when they lost two wickets for just five runs. Awiah Samson and Rexford smashed 37 and 22 before they were bowled by Nakrani and Hassan Bilal in that order and the side could not recover.

Uganda are top of Group A with 10 points and a hefty net run rate of 4.653 while Ghana, the only team that can topple Uganda from summit, who have played all their six games are level on points but with a lower NRR of 2.220.

Uganda face Seychelles on Friday 2:45pm at Gahanga International Stadium and will only miss out on qualification if they lose by about 140 runs!

Nigeria and Kenya are already in the Regional Finals, due November 15-21, courtesy of their improved ranking.
