The Venoms got off the mark with a 2-0 away win at Police FC thanks to goals from Caesar Manzoki and Milton Karisa.

Vipers reportedly turned down a big offer from Algerian leaders ASO Chlef this week to sign the Congolese.

Braced with a energy and a lanky size, Manzoki has proved handful for local defenders.

He is expected to be joined by either last season’s top scorer Yunus Sentamu or new signing Tavares Nelito up front as coach Roberto Oliveira seek to mark his homecoming with a victory.

Sentamu, Aziz Kayondo and Bobosi Byaruhanga have made the top five for Airtel FUFA Awards, big manifest of the quality at Vipers.

Such is the depth of the squad that players like Paul Mucureezi have settled for roles off the bench while the likes Allan Kayiwa struggle to make the match-day squad.

Vipers biggest worry will be their form at Kitende having ended last season with a four-game winless run at home.

Coincidentally, the run was started by Wakiso giants who held them to a goalless draw before a URA draw fell between losses to Express and Mbarara City.

Scoring Stands as Wakiso Giants Biggest Concern

Wakiso Giants scored 12 goals away last season in the league! Only Busoga United (6) scored fewer.

The departure of Viane Sekajugo (now at URA) who scored 13 league goals last season left a huge gap at the club.

Striker Sharif Kimbowa, a striker signed from Busoga United, scored only two goals last season.

They fluffed chance after chance in the 3-0 home loss to KCCA FC in their opener at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium but Coach Douglas Bamweyana says that he has addressed the concern.

“In our last game, our biggest disappointments was our self not exactly the opponent and I think the scoreline flatters them,” Bamweyana is quoted by the club media.

“We had chances but failed to taken them, that is where we have tried to out emphasis in the last few days to try and improve on our finishing and our authority in the final third.”

Kimbowa is expected to make his debut and will carry the scoring burden with alongside Ivan Bogere and Amos Muwonge against a Vipers water-tight defence.

Work is cut out for Wakiso Giants who have not scored a goal in their two league meetings at Kitende!
