Silverbacks small forward Ishmail Wainright has signed a two-way deal to join NBA team Phoenix Suns.
The deal comes just days after he was waived by Toronto Raptors who opted to take Isaac Bonga and Sam Decker instead.
He had averaged 7.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game in Summer League play and impressed in preseason.
Suns, based in Phoenix Arizona, are last season’s NBA runners up and Western Conference Champions.
Born on September 12, 1994 in Kansas City, Ishmael chose to play for Uganda as a naturalised player, averaged 12.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 6.4 assists as Uganda finished sixth at the 2021 FIBA Afrobasket in Kigali.
Suns lost to Denver Nuggets in their NBA season opener and will face LA Lakers tonight (Saturday morning) at the Staples Centre.
