URA FC put up a spirited fight but were edged out by a better Al Masry side as the side bundled out of the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers at the second round stage.

Having held the side to a goalless draw last Saturday, it was a huge mountain to climb for the Tax Collectors in the return leg at Alexandria Stadium.

However, URA FC were buoyed by the return of a couple of players like captain Shafic Kagimu and Steven Mukwala who missed the first leg at Kitende due to Covid19.

Islam Attiya scored the only goal of the pulsating affair to eliminate the Ugandan representatives on Saturday evening.

It was a goal scored against the run of play when left back Derrick Ndahiro was caught in possession before Attiya beautifully curled past Alionzi Nafian in the 21st minute of the game.

The hosts dominated play and URA FC were made to suffer in a game they chased shadows for extended stretches.

But the Sam Timbe charges who played tirelesly and left everything on the pitch, also had some good chances.

Shafic Kagimu swang an effort from close range over the bar and was later denied by the shot-stopper from a tight angle.

Striker Cromwell Rwothomio shot weakly and wide of goal after benefiting from a poor back pass while Ashraf Mandela saw his effort deflected for a corner.

The introduction of Davis Ssali for Mukwala and Moses Sseruyidde who came on for Joachim Ojera failed to impact the game as URA FC’s wait to storm the continental group stages will wait for another year.

URA FC were lucky not to concede a penalty when Benjamin Nyakoojo tripped Austin Amutu while Christian Emeka Eze rattled the woodwork with the keeper beaten.
