Onduparaka Unveils New Kits – Must Know

Uganda Premier League side Onduparaka have unveiled new kits for the 2021/2022 season.

The Caterpillars have also introduced the third Kit which is Pink in Colour and Club Head of Marketing Mercy Munduru said that the alternative kit has been added because “many teams like Gaddafi and UPDF share our away colours.”

The Alternative kit goes for Sh70,000 and on why they opted for pink, she added: “This is also attributed to the times we are in now of Breast Cancer Awareness. We were named champions of palliative Care recently and we want to amplify that message. This colour resonates with that cause.”

The Home (Green) and Away (White) Kits have been priced at Sh55000 and available on the market including in Kampala at the Mabirizi Complex.

The home Jersey is a traditional green in colour with white shorts, the socks are green with some white on top.

While the away kit is white with a green cross design cutting infront in a neck tie format with green shorts and white with some green on top of the socks.

The third kit is pink in colour with Green & Orange design at the bottom while the shorts are green and pink socks with green on top.

They are set to debut the kits in the much anticipated Arua derby on Tuesday 26th away to Arua Hill at the Barifa Stadium.

“Its always very uncertain on a day like this when you are introducing jerseys on the market because you do not know how many jerseys will be sold, how they will be received and you just keep praying that the product you are putting on the market resonates with the fans and it represents their value and passion,” stated Munduru.

“Last year we developed a concept embracing our heritage, we do not have a single kit left as I speak now and we sold every kit to zero.”

Munduru also said that they got over Sh90m in sell of the kits last season which were designed under the theme ‘Embracing Our Heritage’

She thanked the fans from diaspora for buying the kits and revealed that they shipped most number of kits to Ireland, Germany, UAE and South Africa in that order.

Selling Merchandise is one of the avenues that clubs have taken to acquire funds to run the club, and other channels include Sponsorship, Gate Collection and Player Transfers.

She added: “Managing football especially when you are an up-country team is very tedious due to to the financial issues required for a club to successfully run, and as such many clubs that came before us found it very difficult to play for more than one season in top flight. And am proud that we are in our sixth season in the Uganda Premier League.”

Munduru revealed that the kits have been designed under the theme ‘Home is Home’ which resonates with fans getting back to stadiums due to Covid19 and also some players like Shaban Muhammad returning to their home clubs.
