Preview: What Do Villa Have In Store?

SC Villa will finally play their first game of the 2021/22 Uganda Premier League season.

The 16-time record league winners join the part on Matchday four having missed the opening three games due to licensing issues.

They have had adequate preparations including a friendly match against Police which they lost 1-0.

“I am going to have enough options to choose from. The good thing is we didn’t have any muscle injuries although the workload during the preseason was very high,” said coach Petros Koukouras in an interview with The-SportsNation.

They face a Police FC side that has lost their opening three league games but coach Koukouras is aware of how good his opponents are.

Koukouras said: “I have watched a few league matches so far and we played Police in a friendly match. We know they are a very good team and is a big surprise that they have lost all the 3 first matches. Definitely is not reflecting the quality of their team and we expect to have a very difficult match.”

“For them is going to be a do or die match but for us on the other hand is going to be the first league match of the season and is very important to start with 3 points.”

Villa have a couple of new and young players who will need more time to gel and it will take a lot of hard work to move this team from their 10th place finish last season to compete for titles.

They have not been listed by pundits among title contenders and without such pressure on their backs, Villa should use that new status to take the league by storm.

Their biggest problem this season will be the lack of a reputable goal scorer to get them off the line and its a big ask to put the goal scoring burden on teens like Oscar Mawa who will be playing in top flight for the first time.
