Preview: Gitta On the Wheel

Wakiso Giants will officially start a new life without their former head coach Douglas Bamweyana when they welcome Busoga United on Saturday.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, the club comfimed parting ways with Bamweyana, who is said have put in his resignation, following a 5-0 loss to Vipers SC at Kitende last week.

The gaffer later on missed the league game against Police which the Purple Sharks edged 1-0 for their first win of the season, and his assistant Alex Gitta was on the touchline as they got three points at Lugogo.

The club already confirmed that Gitta will take over as the interim coach and his first full game on his new role will come against Busoga United this Saturday.

“We expect to make 2-3 changes given the injury situation. We last won at home last season and come into the game after losing 3-0 to KCCA in the first game here,” Gitta told the club media.

“But we are prepared to give the fans and everyone associated with the club the happy moments they deserve come tomorrow.”

After picking maximum points against Police FC, their first win in the season as well, Gitta will be targeting to maintain the good run given the fact that they are playing at home.

Forward Shariph Kimbowa will be facing his former bosses Busoga United after crossing to the Giants in the previous transfer window.

On facing his former side, Kimbowa said: “For now, I belong to Wakiso Giants and will do all it takes to ensure we win. If I score, I will celebrate since they are now former bosses. Before and after the game, they will be friends but during the game, it will be a different story.”

On the other hand, the Visitors will be targeting to bounce back with victory having lost to KCCA 1-0 at home in Njeru in their previous game.

Despite beating Gaddafi FC in their league opener, Abbey Bogere Kikomeko’s side failed to use their little chances in their previous game against the Kasasiro Boys.

And now, having it mind that each point is vital to avoid an early relegation dog fight, there will be no room for error when they face the Purple Sharks on Saturday.

Match Stats

  • This will be the 5th league meeting between the two sides. Busoga United take the Lion’s share as they have won on two occasions, Wakiso Giants have won one with the other ending in a draw.
