Uganda U20 Women’s team will be eyeing a perfect Start when they face Burundi as the CECAFA U20 Women’s Championship gets underway at the FUFA Technical centre in Njeru on Saturday.

The tournament that is set to kick start from October 30th to 10th November will have six teams taking part including Tanzania, Ethiopia, Burundi, Eriteria, Djibouti and the hosts Uganda.

The opening fixture will see Tanzania up against Eritrea at 10:30 am. Later on Djibouti will take on Ethiopia at 1:30pm with the hosts Uganda coming later on against Burundi at 4pm in the evening.

Ahead of the first game, head coach Ayub Khalifa is hoping for the best as this tournament will be used to prepare for the South Africa test in the U20 Women’s FIFA World Cup Qualifier.

“Its not easy to be host as it comes with a lot of expectations but I want to assure our viewers that we are doing our best so that we can win this championship. The tournament is a good preparation for us as we head for the FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifiers so we shall use this as we prepare for South Africa, Ayub Said after Friday’s last training.

On Friday evening, Ayub confirmed the final squad that will represent the country at this year’s CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship.

However, sharpshooter Juliet Nalukenge, who has been a key player for both the Crested Cranes and U20 National teams in their past games this month is not part of the team. It is said that the striker returned to Cyprus for club engagements.

And now, U20 Women’s National team skipper Fauzia Najjemba and Margaret Kunihira will be expected to lead the striking line in search for goals as the team eyes a perfect Start.

After the Burundi contest, Uganda’s next game will be against Djibouti on Monday before facing Eritrea, Ethiopia and Tanzania in the subsequent fixtures.
