Express FC 2-2 Vipers SC
(Betway Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku)
Livingston Mulondo scored late in the game to deny defending Champions Express three points at Wankulukuku.
The Defender struck as Vipers fought back to draw with the Red Eagles in a four-goal thriller.
Caesar Mazonki had earlier put the Visitors into the lead but Murshid Juuko and returning forward Eric Kambale scored to put Express in front.
The visitors started the better side, having the Lions share of the possession and it wasnt a surprise when they scored first in the 10th minute through Congolese born striker Mazonki who scored from a rebound after Yunus Sentamu’s intial shot was saved by goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
However, moments later, the hosts had a penalty appeal waved after Eric Kambale seemed to have been fouled in the area by Mulondo, as the referee called for a goal kick.
On the other end, the Visitors were also denied a penalty after Arthur Kiggundu seemed to have handed the ball in the area to deny Sentamu’s effort.
Thereafter, Vipers defence looked shaky and it wasn’t a surprise they conceded two goals before the break.
First in the 28th minute, Juuko leveled matters, heading home after collecting from midfielder Mahad Yaya Kakoza.
And at the stroke of half time, Kambale put his side ahead tapping in from a well laid cross from Deus Bukenya.
At the restart of the second, Vipers staged flurry of attacks in search for an equaliser.
Manzoki saw his header kept out for a corner by goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
And the hosts sat deeper as they waited to get the Venoms at the counter. The trick almost worked on two occasions but Martin Kiiza’s two well laid passes went just unanswered.
However, the Red Eagles will have Deus Bukenya to thank after he cleared off the line in the 78th minute.
Four minutes later, Manzoki rose highest to set up a well positioned Mulondo who made no mistake to tap home past a helpless Mutakubwa.
Moments later, Mutakubwa was called into action twice as the Venoms launched more moves to kill off the game. First he saved substitute Paul Mucuurezi’s header for a corner before later doing the same to Sentamu’s effort.
The result saw the Red Eagles move to four points after picking their first win against Bul FC in their previous game.
For the Venoms, they move to seven points on the log and remain unbeaten in their opening three games.
What Next – Express will be away to Police FC on Tuesday 2nd November while Vipers will host Onduparaka at Kitende on the same day.
